Saranac Lake Backcountry 3P

This is our first time doing a backcountry version of the 3P and we are approaching it with some appropriate humbleness and vulnerability - our mantra has been “small and simple” so we can grow responsibly and safely.  To this end, we are limiting the 2024 race to 30 participants, and we will host a lottery for interested participants.

The Backcountry 3P route involves ~14 miles of dirt road biking, ~2 miles of hiking/trail running, and ~4 miles of flatwater paddling/portaging. Limited support out on course will be available, with only a single aid station.

Lottery is open from Thu Sep 5th through Thu Sep 12th.  Names will be randomly selected after the close of the lottery with notifications sent out on Saturday, Sep 14th.  Fees will only be collected when/if you are selected out of the lottery.

We are only accepting solo entrants to keep logistics a bit simpler, sorry no teams nor kids race (under 16 yrs old).  We look forward to growing and offering these categories in future years.

We encourage interested participants to look over the route and be honest with your abilities. While there will be 3P personnel available for medical emergencies, this race is not for everyone and involves miles of unsupported wilderness travel. Do you know how to change a flat on your bike? Can you carry all the gear you need for the race (aside from your boat, which will be staged at the put-in/takeout beforehand)?  Please only sign-up for the lottery if you have every intention of participating.
