The Saranac Lake 3P is a charity race event that benefits local area youth; each year the race proceeds are donated to a different local organization that acts to improve the recreational opportunities for our area's youth. What better way to directly benefit our youth than putting on a fun mini 3P event for them?!
It’s a great way to get our younger athletes involved in the excitement that is the “3P” and has become a true community tradition.
The Kids 3P race event will be held the same day as our regular 3P event, on March 2, 2023. Weather permitting, our contingency date is Sunday March 3, 2023. The Kids 3P race time is 12pm, timed to be after most adult 3P participants finish but before the awards ceremony at 1pm. We hope this time allows for a lot of spectators, including adult 3P participants to stick around and cheer on our youth! There will be an on-slope meeting with all Kids 3P participants and their guardians at 11:45am.
We envision this as a laidback, fun event, with competition not being the primary focus; it will be much more about positive participation than it will be about finishing and winning. It will be a great event for spectators to root for the kids! We encourage teams of kids working together, positivity and smiles all around, and parents/guardians helping little ones on the course if needed.
The Kids 3P race is for 5 to 15 year olds, and while solo participants are allowed, given the nature of the course and different disciplines, we highly encourage relay teams up to 5 kids each, especially for the younger kids.
Unlike the parent race that traverses the village of Saranac Lake, the Kids 3P Race will be entirely confined to the Mt. Pisgah property.
The "race" (it isn't about winning though!) will involve short segments of various modes of human-powered travel and challenges. There will be a mass start just like the adult 3P race and transition areas where kids can change into different gear for the next segment or tag off to their teammate waiting for them. Cost per participant is $10; registration costs are purposely being kept very low to allow any kids that want to participate to join us on race day. Each participant will get an event t-shirt, lunch, and a finisher item. We're actively looking for a sponsor to help us defray costs associated with putting on the Kids 3P event.
